Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour was created as a gift to the people of NSW in celebration of Australia's bicentenary in 1988. Since its opening, Darling Harbour has been a place of celebration for the people of Sydney, as well as a hugely popular tourist destination, that attracts more than 25 million visitors annually*.

At Darling Harbour, the Authority manages 139 tenancies comprising waterfront cafes, restaurants and bars, contemporary shopping, marina berths and many of Sydney's top attractions.

The Authority also provides tenant services including cleaning activities throughout managed buildings, public spaces and amenities, security services and best practice landscaping work in parks and gardens.

Darling Harbour also hosts six major FREE annual events, including the Jazz and Blues Festival and New Year's Eve, as well as an exciting program of fantastic entertainment every week. For more information, check out What's on at Darling Harbour.

Sydney Entertainment Centre
Sydney Entertainment Centre (SEC) is one of Australia's largest, busiest and most versatile indoor arenas.

Located at Chinatown and a short walk from the CBD, SEC is owned by the Foreshore Authority and operated by Darling Harbour Convention and Exhibitions Pty Ltd.

Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre
The purpose-built Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC) opened in 1988 and is now Australia's largest and most successful venues for conferences, exhibitions and special events.

SCEC boasts six exhibition halls, more than 30,000 square metres of exhibition space, 30 meeting rooms, Sydney's largest ballroom, a banquet hall and two auditoriums.

SCEC is owned by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and privately managed by Darling Harbour Convention and Exhibitions Pty Ltd.

Chinese Garden of Friendship
Initiated by the local Chinese community to celebrate Australia's 1988 bicentenary, the Chinese Garden of Friendship is the result of a close bond of friendship and cooperation between the sister cities of Sydney and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, China.

The one-hectare enclosed garden offers a rare opportunity outside of Asia to experience century-old traditions of landscaping, architecture and design. The garden is located just minutes from the CBD, Haymarket and Chinatown.

Darling Harbour car parks
The Authority owns three car parks in the Darling Harbour precinct.

• Harbourside - 1426 bays
• Entertainment - 1980 bays

In line with the Authority's sustainability objectives, Harbourside (two bays) and Entertainment (three bays) offer 'green' car spaces exclusively for hybrid vehicles.

Vessel bookings
The Darling Harbour booking system allows vessel operators to book:

• Berths at wharves in Darling Harbour that are owned and/or managed by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority
• Pyrmont Bridge openings.

To book a berth or Pyrmont Bridge opening, vessel operators must hold a Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority Commercial and Casual Berthing Licence. To apply for a Berthing Licence, please download the licence application form.

 

*How visitors are counted
Electronic people counters are installed in key locations in Darling Harbour and The Rocks. The counters emit an infrared beam and each time a pedestrian breaks the beam a people movement is registered. Calibration and expansion calculations are applied to raw counts to ensure that final figures estimate total pedestrian flow into a precinct. These figures do include repeat visits made by visitors, workers and residents.
