Sydney Learning Adventures

Thankyou for taking the time to discover Sydney Learning Adventures' extensive range of school excursions and education programs.

As an initiative of Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Sydney Learning Adventures' vision is to create quality educational excursions that are enriching, diverse, safe, accessible and sustainable.

rocks discovery tourSydney Learning Adventures (SLA) brings the history of Australia, NSW and Sydney to life for thousands of students every year.

All SLA's excursions are developed by teachers and implemented by our dynamic and interpretive guides. They are also curriculum-linked and designed for all stages of learning (kindergarten to year 12) providing an interactive, multi-layered learning experience for students.

SLA Term 4 2011 Prize Winner 
Congratulations to St Catherine's Primary School of Waverley, the winner of our book prize for term 4 2011.

Thanks to everyone who filled in a program evaluation form which are automatically entered into a draw for our book prize each term.

Time Travellers in The Rocks
Time Travellers in The Rocks OverviewTime Travellers in The Rocks is a new program that:
-    lets students play the role of historians
-    shows students what life was like for The Rocks' inhabitants in different time periods
-    exposes students to a variety of historical concepts
-    ticks curriculum boxes for compulsory site studies, stage five mandatory and elective outcomes.

Free overview sessions for teachers are: 12 noon - 12.30pm and 2.30pm - 3pm on 26 February.

The Rocks Dreaming
The Rocks DreamingLooking for a great introduction to Aboriginal Sydney?  Consider The Rocks Dreaming, a two-hour walking tour which:
-    imparts Aboriginal knowledge linked to school curriculum outcomes
-    brings to life the Aboriginal stories of The Rocks
-    included a visit to The Rocks Discovery Muesum to see an exhibition of life in The Rocks before British settlement.

The Big Dig wins UNESCO Award
YHA Big Dig centreSydney Harbour YHA and The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre have won a much-coveted Jury Commendation for Innovation at the 2011 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

The award recognises newly-built structures which demonstrate outstanding standards for contemporary architectural design which is well-integrated into historical contexts.

The Big Dig provides a valuable modern facility to school students who can access the dig site and explore Sydney's history through Sydney Learning Adventures' series of hands-on, immersive archaeology programs.
